Acceleration |
The ability to increase speed. |
| CRB | Criminal Records Bureau - Enhanced - This is a required police check on an individual working with children. |
| Deceleration | The ability to decrease speed. |
Dynamic Balance |
The ability to control the body during motion. Example - a player uses dynamic balance when she or he changes direction after hitting a shot. |
| Footwork Patterns | The ability to move in a way which will enhance the ability to play a sport. |
| Fundamentals | Basic movements or skills required for activity (running, catching, receiving, throwing, kicking etc . |
| LTAD (Long Term Athlete Development) | 10,000 hours of coaching over a 10 year period to reach elite level. As the child develops so to does the time frame in which certain areas of ability must be taught, ie balance and co-ordination are key fundamental skills up to the age of 9, after this the ability to develop these skills reduces as the body starts to focus on growing and developing strength. |
| Plyometric | Plyometrics is a type of exercise that uses explosive movements to develop power, the ability to generate a large amount of force quickly. |
| Resistance | Resistance training will increase strength and endurance, while running and jogging will not. |
| Sport Specific Training | Training designed to develop the skills needed in an individual sport. |
| Static | The ability to control the body while the body is stationery. Example - a player uses static balance when she or he prepares for a serve. |
